This episode is free to all. Please help us share Diana Buttu’s important message.

Palestinian lawyer Diana Buttu returns to Useful Idiots, joining us from Haifa, Israel. We begin our conversation asking about the Global Sumud Flotilla, which sailed through international waters in an effort to break Israel’s starvation siege on Gaza. On Wednesday and Thursday, to international silence, the IDF kidnapped over 450 Flotilla members including Greta Thunberg and former Useful Idiots guest Thiago Ávila.

Useful Idiots: What is your reaction to this news?

Diana Buttu: We’ve been spending the past two years watching a live stream genocide. And here we watched 450 people being kidnapped and acts of piracy! And still nobody is doing anything about it. It shows you the lengths to which Israel is willing to go to actually starve the people of Gaza.

Useful Idiots: Polls in the US now show that more Americans sympathize with Palestinians than they do with Israelis. After decades and decades of pro-Israel propaganda in the US, which now is only intensifying with pro-Israel oligarchs buying TikTok, CBS, Paramount, and possibly even CNN, a majority of Americans oppose U.S. military support to Israel.

But in government, there’s so much to overcome. This week, Trump unveiled a new so-called peace plan to Netanyau. It’s basically a complete surrender for Palestinians. And one of the demands that Netanyahu made was an end to what he called lawfare: no more taking Israel to the International Criminal Court. As a Palestinian attorney, what is your response to this?

Diana Buttu: This model of thinking of putting conditions on freedom, there’s a word for that. It’s called colonialism.

That model ended a long time ago and the fact that they’re still trying to revive it when it comes to Palestinians is really quite repugnant. The Americans have always treated Palestinians by patting us on the head, like, ‘if you’re good Palestinians, if you do exactly what we say, then maybe, just maybe we will give you the things that you want.’

It shouldn’t be a question of what the United States wants, what Israel wants, or what anybody wants. The fact that the country that has perpetrated genocide and the country that is funding the genocide have anything to say about what Palestinians do is so abhorrent. That’s number one. Two is I absolutely insist that these war criminals be held to account. It is step number one!

Useful Idiots: I want to talk to you about Israel’s crimes. There’s a pretty scary statement that was tweeted out by Israel’s so-called defense minister, Israel Katz:

The IDF has completed the capture of the Netzarim axis up to the Gaza coast, effectively dividing Gaza between north and south.

This is the last opportunity for Gaza residents who wish to do so to move south and leave Hamas terrorists isolated in Gaza city itself, facing the IDF’s ongoing operations at full force.

Those who remain in Gaza will be considered terrorists and terror supporters.

The IDF is prepared for all possibilities and is determined to continue its operations.

So this is ominous. What is your response to this statement?

Diana Buttu: They’re openly saying that they’re just going to kill everybody.

There are hundreds of thousands of people living in Gaza City. There’s a number of hospitals there. There are old people, there are young people, there are people who are ill, who are in hospital. There are people who are disabled. There’s just a whole range of society. And what he’s saying is, ‘if you remain, you are a fair target.’

Again, it’s like flipping this idea of international law on its head, but they’ve done it now for the past two years. In the way that Israel has been operating, anybody in Gaza equals Hamas. They’ve said this. They’ve warned against this. We’ve been tracking their statements. That’s why it’s genocide. And now they’re coming out very clearly and saying, ‘if you remain in Gaza City, we’re going to treat you as Hamas, and therefore we are going to get rid of you.’ I don’t think they’ve made it any clearer than that.

Please share this episode to spread Diana’s important words. Thanks for supporting Useful Idiots and independent media.

Sanctions Are a Form of Warfare

“Sanctions are a form of war. They’re economic warfare. And they destroy people’s lives.”

Joshua Landis (https://twitter.com/joshua_landis), Sandra Mackey Chair in Middle East Studies at the University of Oklahoma, is one of the foremost experts on Syria. This week, as Syria, along with neighbor Turkiye, grapples with the aftermath of the devastating earthquake, Professor Landis joins the Useful Idiots to explain the deadly consequences that sanctions pile on to the damage.

“America likes to talk about all its precision bombing and hitting someone with a drone to avoid collateral damage,” Landis explains. “But sanctions? It’s all about collateral damage. Very little of it is targeted.”

But if you read corporate media outlets like the New York Times or Washington Post, you’d find a much different story. Both papers this week published headlines that were hastily changed when they realized they were being a little too truthful. See if you can tell the difference:

Free preview: Matt Taibbi Exposes Russiagate Bots

With Matt Taibbi’s Twitter Files and Jeff Gerth’s new in-depth reporting for CJR exposing the years of lies spread by Russiagaters, bitter attacks from outed journalists are rolling in.

Gerth and Taibbi, who come from the old style of journalism where you fact check your work and don’t accept government officials’ claims on faith, have each shown clear, indisputable evidence of disinformation campaigns pushed by corporate reporters. And since the so-called journalists can’t argue the facts, they dig themselves a deeper hole with more lies and name-calling.

Jeff Gerth has been working as a reporter for decades and published, in the very mainstream Columbia Journalism Review, a 20,000-word report on his findings, only to be called a liar and misdirecting magician in the most self-important article by Mother Jones’ David Corn (“The true media failure is that Trump got away with it and that articles like this one that you are now reading are still necessary.”) And possibly worse ...

Emphasized "Dancing with 88

I have altered space here—   to

a rupture in the silent fabric,

where every atom reclaims its song.

A change, seen on my 90° angle,

becomes the pivot of a daring ballet,

the precise intersection where fate unspools.

In that crisp right-angle lie the secrets

of all absorbed twilight and reborn dawns,

a moment where geometry becomes prophecy,

transmuting static lines into dynamic rhythms,

inviting the cosmos to twirl in unexpected arcs.

And then—

I find myself dancing with 88,

a numeral of resonance, a muse of mystery.

It whispers in binary beats,

each pulse a portal leading into

symphonies scribbled on the canvas of space-time.

This is no choreographed routine,

but a wild, liberated waltz

where dimensions bend and merge—

where the old order crumbles

under the heat of relentless transformation

and every step unearths a layer of being.

At that 90° juncture,

the universe unfolds like a secret map,

revealing uncharted realms in every fracture,

while 88 becomes the score for a cosmic ballet,

Let's talk about the Democrats who gave Trump a standing ovation for bombing Iran
Plus, Bill Maher rolls around in a big pot of slime while talking about Ilhan Omar

“No war with Iran,” Senator Elizabeth Warren tweeted on Tuesday. “The American people want President Trump to focus on making life more affordable for working families here at home, not sending our military into another endless war in the Middle East.”

The resistance lives! No more forever wars! No more regime change! Help struggling Americans! No more suffering! Go Elizabeth Warren!

So later that night, we hoped, at Trump’s State of the Union Speech, surely Senator Warren would stand by these antiwar values and protest Trump’s warmongering against Iran, right? Right?

“These are horrible people,” Trump says. “After Midnight Hammer” (the illegal operation in which the US and Israel attacked Iran in the middle of peace negotiations, “they were warned to make no future attempt to rebuild their weapons program,” which, according to the Trump administration’s own report, they haven’t, “and are at this moment again pursuing their sinister ambitions.” Not true.

He continues with the lie: “We haven’t heard those secret words that we will never again pursue a nuclear weapon.”

And she’s up! Not protesting or booing but applauding, a standing ovation from the Massachusetts senator, alongside other Democrats Chuck Schumer, Amy Klobuchar, Chris Coons, John Fetterman, and more.

Trump continues. “One thing is certain. I will never allow the world’s number one sponsor of terror, which they are, by far, to have a nuclear weapon.”

And they’re up again! Democrats and Republicans alike, cheering on the president’s lies, no different than the WMD hoax of the Iraq War.

Luckily Katie and Aaron are here to mock the warmongering senators as they cheer.

Also in this week’s Friday Free-for-All: JD Vance is still blaming Joe Biden for Americans suffering in poverty, Dr. Oz announces new sweeping cuts to Medicaid, and Bill Maher rolls around in a big pot of slime while talking about Ilhan Omar.

We Can't Take the Risk of Not Going to War with Iran
And other insane statements from US politicians and media this week

“Could our soldiers be hit in the region? Absolutely they could. Can Iran respond if we have an all-out attack? Absolutely, they can.”

In what sounds like the beginning of the worst inspirational speech in history (‘Will tens of thousands of people needlessly die? Sure! But will this increase the possibility of world-ending nuclear war? Yes!’ and so forth), Senator Lindsey Graham gave a saber-rattling rant in Tel Aviv this week to echo Hillary Clinton in begging President Trump to bomb Iran.

He continues: “I think the risk associated with that is far less than the risk associated with blinking, pulling the plug, and not helping the people as you promised.”

So… it’s more risky NOT to go to war with Iran than blinking, taking a breath, and considering diplomacy? Terribly enough, this viewpoint has become the norm among our politicians across the political spectrum.

Joining Graham and the aforementioned Clinton in warmongering bomb-pushing are Democratic Senator Mark Warner, former top Biden official Brett McGurk, and the nation’s son-in-law Jared Kushner. We watch clips of each of them as they parade their missiles on the world stage.

Plus, Mike Huckabee’s getting nervous that the ICC might arrest him, actor Ethan Hawke joins the list of artists who now claim that art isn’t political, and Trump’s got a crush on a new boy from Paraguay.

It’s all this, and more, on this week’s Friday Free-for-All. Thanks for supporting independent media, subscribe to watch the full episode here:

What do John Fetterman and AI have in common? They both just threatened to kill people
Plus, acclaimed director Wim Wenders completely contradicts his own morals in embarrassing Gaza denial

What do a mentally-impaired fake-Democrat Senator and the inhuman AI Claude have in common? They both just threatened to kill.

“Let’s get back to killing,” Fetterman said in response to Israel’s sham ceasefire, which, while already violated countless times by the IDF resulting in the deaths of thousands more Palestinians, was not good enough for Senator Fetterman. “Kill them all,” he said.

This statement comes as the increasingly-far-right Fetterman is now cozying up to Kristi Noem and the murderous ICE, insisting he wants even more round-up deportations.

Statements like these could only be made by a psychopathic human. Or… a robot

“It was ready to kill someone, wasn’t it?”

“Yes.”

During a panel this week, Daisy McGregor, UK policy chief at Anthropic, the company that created Claude AI, said it's "massively concerning" that Claude has shown in testing that it's willing to blackmail and kill in order to avoid being shut down.

That comes after an engineer at Anthropic resigned, claiming that “the world is in peril.”

Which is why we think Claude would agree with John Fetterman’s desire to “kill them all.”

Also in this Friday Free-For-All: famed film director Wim Wenders, who said in 1988 that “every film is political,” was asked by a journalist at the Berlinale Film Festival if the jury panel would condemn Germany’s support for Israel’s genocide in Gaza.

“We have to stay out of politics,” Wenders responded, “because if we make movies that are political, we enter the field of politics. But we are the opposite of politics.” What a shame.

Plus, Republican Congressman Jason Smith STEALS our line about Trump’s policy on immigration. And we’re NOT happy about it.
