Sanctions Are a Form of Warfare

“Sanctions are a form of war. They’re economic warfare. And they destroy people’s lives.”

Joshua Landis (https://twitter.com/joshua_landis), Sandra Mackey Chair in Middle East Studies at the University of Oklahoma, is one of the foremost experts on Syria. This week, as Syria, along with neighbor Turkiye, grapples with the aftermath of the devastating earthquake, Professor Landis joins the Useful Idiots to explain the deadly consequences that sanctions pile on to the damage.

“America likes to talk about all its precision bombing and hitting someone with a drone to avoid collateral damage,” Landis explains. “But sanctions? It’s all about collateral damage. Very little of it is targeted.”

But if you read corporate media outlets like the New York Times or Washington Post, you’d find a much different story. Both papers this week published headlines that were hastily changed when they realized they were being a little too truthful. See if you can tell the difference:

Free preview: Matt Taibbi Exposes Russiagate Bots

With Matt Taibbi’s Twitter Files and Jeff Gerth’s new in-depth reporting for CJR exposing the years of lies spread by Russiagaters, bitter attacks from outed journalists are rolling in.

Gerth and Taibbi, who come from the old style of journalism where you fact check your work and don’t accept government officials’ claims on faith, have each shown clear, indisputable evidence of disinformation campaigns pushed by corporate reporters. And since the so-called journalists can’t argue the facts, they dig themselves a deeper hole with more lies and name-calling.

Jeff Gerth has been working as a reporter for decades and published, in the very mainstream Columbia Journalism Review, a 20,000-word report on his findings, only to be called a liar and misdirecting magician in the most self-important article by Mother Jones’ David Corn (“The true media failure is that Trump got away with it and that articles like this one that you are now reading are still necessary.”) And possibly worse ...

Good to be part of the community. I think that Aaron and Katie do a brilliant job in these hellish times when such great in - depth research and reporting are essential.

The full Video is now up on our Locals Channel; Truckers Roost.
Our intrepid reporter, Mr. Fat Flabbie Doobie, reports on the war between Russia and Ukraine in the former Crimean Khanate:
By around 800 a.d. the Kievan Rus was the dominant force in Rus culture, but the Crimea, and all coastal areas, were dominated by nomadic Turkic peoples, with ancient Greek port settlements scattered along the coast. In 1222 Ghengis Khan invaded the Crimea and defeated the Turks there. In the years that followed, his Golden Horde would conquer the entirety of the Crimea and the Kievan Rus. In 1441, the descendants of Ghengis Khan established a new nation, the Krimean Khanate, encompassing the Crimean peninsula and the Donbas region. In the meantime the center of Rus culture had shifted to Moscow and had slowly pushed the Mongols out of the greater Rus. In 1783, Catherine the great finally defeated the Khanate (ruled by Khans of Ghengis' Giray clan) and annexed it into Russia. For the next 134 ...

There are many senators and congress people who have dual citizenship with Israel and also identify with Zionism. I believe that they should identify themselves to the American public. I would like these people to give up their Israel citizen ship or leave their positions in the Senate or Congress.
The identification with Zionism has already affected the response of United States response where the general public has not been let in to who and what has been influencing their lives with private agendas. I personally believe that on the subject of the state of Israel, the mind of the collective has been so damaged by historic abuse that it has become distorted by anger.

MSNBC's Hypocritical Meltdown Over Ronna McDaniel’s Hire
Former government spokespeople fume at the hire of a government spokesperson

The self-acclaimed journalists at MSNBC, including Nicole Wallace (George W. Bush’s communications director), Jen Psaki (Biden’s press secretary), Joe Scarborough (Republican congressman), John Brennan (CIA director), etc, have become enraged with their parent company for hiring Ronna McDaniel, who get this, used to be a government spokesperson.

McDaniel previously served as the chair of the RNC, notably backing Trump’s claims of election fraud in 2020. And while MSNBC seemingly mandates that its hosts have a background in lying, such as Nicole Wallace peddling WMD lies which led to the Iraq War, or Rachel Maddow’s repeated claims that the 2016 election was stolen, McDaniel’s lies are far more egregious.

Hers damage the decorum of the elites.

Katie and Aaron throw down on the cries of the MSNBC hosts of a liar among their ranks and the celebrations they threw when she was ultimately fired. It’s about as hypocritical as we’ve ever seen them. Tune in to join the fun.

Plus, John Kirby walks back the US’s position on the UN ceasefire resolution, saying it’s nonbinding and that he still loves Israel with all his heart, Matthew Miller calls the UN antisemitic for their independent investigation that found Israel guilty of genocide, and Ali Velshi has a strange memory hole in his coverage of the US’s role in the destruction of Haiti.

It’s our Thursday bonus episode. Let us know in the comments what corporate media monologues, interviews, or anything else you want to see on the next Thursday Throwdown.

US Media is STILL lying about October 7 after UN debunks Israel
Ali Abunimah breaks down the New York Times' evidence-free claims of mass sexual assault

Watch the full, unpaywalled interview with Ali Abunimah here:

“This propaganda is a weapon to kill Palestinians.”

The New York Times, the US government’s most prestigious arm of state media, has continued to churn out headlines accusing Hamas of a systematic and deliberate campaign of sexual violence as a weapon of war. An independent UN investigation, as well as countless journalists and primary sources, has shown these claims to be completely evidence-free. Even factions within the Times have refused to go along with the story.

This has not stopped the paper of record.

Throughout history, rape accusations have been a tool of dehumanization. Claims of sexual violence have been used to justify colonialism, slavery, Jim Crow, lynchings, and the West’s violent regime change in Libya.

“The bottom line,” explains guest Ali Abunimah, editor of the Electronic Intifada, “is we are now well into the sixth month of this genocide which is partly justified on the basis of these allegations and other claims of atrocities that have turned out to be false. To this day, not a single specific victim, living or dead, has been identified. We keep hearing the refrain ‘believe Israeli women;’ to this date there is not a single Israeli woman who has come forward to say that she was a victim of this kind of assault.”

So where are these rumors coming from? After the lies were debunked by journalists, a UN report was published though as it admits it was not “investigative in nature.” Ali explains, “What the UN report did was simply to compile allegations from the Israeli military.”

Even this biased non-investigation debunks specific claims of violence and proves that sexual violence was not systemic, and yet you’d never know that from the way legacy media is covering the report.

But while journalists like Ali Abunimah are kept busy debunking these dehumanizing lies, Israel’s assault on Gaza continues. And the independent journalists who are busy covering that are putting themselves in serious danger to shed light on the genocide. Ali reports that four journalists from the Electronic Intifada have been killed and many more are in daily danger.

“People do not know from hour to hour if they will live or die.”

Hear and share the important voice of Ali Abunimah and the reporting of the brave journalists at the Electronic Intifada. Your support of independent media makes a difference.

US Politicians Ban TikTok to Save Free Speech
Using authoritarianism to fight authoritarianism is the USA way

In order to stop the digital equivalence of thousands of Chinese spy balloons (a current US representative actually said that) from destroying free speech in America, US politicians are jumping into action: they’re destroying it first.

When it comes to massive tech companies surging endless propaganda into our minds and controlling what we see, we want them to be homegrown and American, dammit! Not from some foreign government! So in order to stop foreign authoritarianism, a bipartisan array of politicians are boosting the domestic kind by voting to ban TikTok.

And don’t be fooled, this is JUST about the issue of a foreign government spying on us, and NOT (even though many of the same politicians accidentally said this quiet part out loud) because the government is suddenly unable to control the main news source of a majority of young people. When the youth stop tuning in to state media like MSNBC, Fox News, or CNN, they apparently start to get some very dangerous ideas.

Like being against genocide, for example.

In a leaked audio, the head of the ADL told shareholders that Israel “reeeeeally has a TikTok problem.” It seems that when people get a chance to think for themselves and independent journalists have a platform to share facts, they don’t side with oppressors. And that has become a problem for the US and Israel.

Aaron and Katie are keeping a close eye on this as the bill moves on to the Senate. We’ll see if they join the House in the decision to fight fire with fire.

Plus, CNN aired on national television that Ilhan Omar is “a public relations agent for Hamas,” Adam Schiff is back to doing what he does best (Russiagating), and Ben Shapiro has a terrible new take, along with a dream to make America worse.

Everything’s as terrible as ever – throw down with Katie and Aaron so you can hopefully laugh instead of cry at it.
